The AGM was well attended by around 50 people including patients and their families; clinical and management staff from the kidney services at Guy’s.
The meeting was held on Saturday 13th November 2010 in The Roben’s Suite on the 29th floor of Guy’s Tower. The KPA chair, Trevor Cook, welcomed everyone and took the opportunity to say “thank you” for the support given to the KPA throughout the year. In the Chair’s report Trevor listed some of the KPA’s activities, here is a snap shot:
- Re – launch of the newsletter
- An introduction pack for new kidney patients and new promotional materials
- Visits to all community dialysis units to meet patients and staff
- Supporter of the British Science Festival
- Working in partnership with Kidney Research UK
- Working in partnership with the finance division of Sainsbury’s
- Supply of DVD players; TVs; birthday cards and cakes for dialysis units
- Fund raising including: runners in the Marathon; collections at railway stations
- Support for the Transplant Games
- Support for research
Future plans include:
- To continue to raise awareness of the KPA amongst kidney patients, families, carers and clinicians; including launching the new website on World Kidney Day, 10th March 2011
- To continue to support dialysis units and other patient groups to develop their own KPA identities.
- To work with clinicians and other staff to ensure the interests of kidney patients, carers and families are paramount.
- To work with organisations in the community to support patients locally.
- To work in partnership with other charities.
- To raise funds to support patient activities, patient facilities and research.
To support young people with kidney disease to pursue opportunities in education and training
