‘I CAN DO IT’:
To celebrate World Kidney Day on 8th March, the KPA commissioned a specialist company to run a workshop for kidney patients. The workshop offered help in presentation skills, employment legal advice and each person attending received a personal CV (personal statement which may assist you when applying for a job).
Spectrum, the specialist employment company, along with one of our patients, Maddy Warren, put together an extremely challenging programme which helped patients to identify their strengths, develop coping skills and build confidence. Many of the skills are those of being an expert patient – reliability, honesty, time keeping, inner strength, toughness and these are just the skills many employers are looking for. We also heard about the legal issues concerning employment, benefits and volunteering.
The day was a great success and everyone who attended found it beneficial and walked away with a “skip in their step” and their inner strength and determination boosted for the future. We wish them all well.
As it was such a successful day we are hoping to run this event again later in the year so if anyone is interested in attending please look out for the publicity or you can register your interest by contacting Bernadette Lynch, Renal Offices, 6th floor Borough Wing, Guy’s Hospital, London, SE1 9RT.
